Passage Express does, either knowingly or unknowingly, import IPTC information into the Details box of imported jpg's and tiff's. However, it also precedes the imported information with <rdf:li xml:lang='x-default'>
Obviously, that string would have to manually deleted on every single photograph. Is it possible to engineer that out of there?

I've never seen this happen. No details is the standard I've seen - and discovered after awhile that I didn't need to remove THAT...

Is the "IPTC info" different from what I can read about a specific picture if I hover the mouse over the file on my hard drive?

Is it something that only comes from very high end cameras?

No, this has nothing to do with cameras. You're probably thinking of the EXIF info. And no you won't see it if you hover your cursor over a file on your hard-drive.

It's voluntarily embedded information that some software supports. In Adobe it's called "File Info". It can contain useful info like author, description, copyright notice.

If you don't have an Adobe graphics program to look at, try Googling IPTC or XMP for more information. Or you can read about my adventures with it at http://www.jgen.ws/jlog/photo-filing/iptc/

I am delighted to find that Passage Express imports it (contents of the 'description' field only) along with any graphics file using it. It keeps me from having to retype the description from elsewhere, but the <rdf:li xml:lang='x-default'> is a problem.

Hello JLB, Could you possibly attach a couple of sample photos to an email that has this time of situation that you describe? You could ship it directly to me at jon@passageexpress.com.
