It has been SO quiet around here lately! I guess everyone is either working very hard on a project or else they are off on vacation.
What's your latest project?
I'm currently working on a vacation planner for our family for later in the summer. It's a way to get the info to everyone without printing out tons of papers.
The best part is no one will be able to claim that I didn't tell them something.... _________________ Terry - volunteer forum monitor |

I have just completed another slideshow and DVD video of my nephew's wedding and reception. Each time I complete one of these projects I am struck by the significance of such an achievement. To me each of these projects is a snapshot of some important event in history. And preserving the event in this way is certainly a marked improvement over the shoe boxes of photographs that I inherited from my parents.
Nuff said. _________________ Bernie |

Hi Bernie,
I agree completely! Now that so many of us are using digital cameras, it's more important than ever. I think that many people don't have prints made (or print them out) I think many of these photos are going to be lost over time. I have friends and relatives who don't know how to save the pictures from the digital camera, and have seen people bring the whole camera in to CVS or some such place in order to have the pictures taken off the camera!
I do try to use the online services to have prints made of many of my digital pix, but the CD or DVD is so much easier to store and such a pleasant way to relive an event or time.
Terry
PS - I just recently discovered WinkFlash.com and am very pleased with their service and prices - though the manipulation of pictures is a bit awkward. To have the old square 3 X 3 pictures print out without having some bits cropped off - I had to "place" each one on a white 4X6 paper. _________________ Terry - volunteer forum monitor |

Hi, I spoke somewhere else about my calendar project for this year, but thought I'd move further talk about it to this subject.
My original plan was to print out calendars for my cousins that list the birthdays and anniversaries for 2007 - and how old we'll all be or how many years married. Tthere are a lot of milestones this year.
Once my calendar was done, I realized that printing it was going to take too much time and ink. Yesterday I decided to make it a PE project and put it on a computer disk. The files are .pdf so they can either look at it on the computer or print it out for themselves if they prefer.
As long as I was doing the calendar, I decided to add our current family address book and ask for additons and corrections at the same time.
I've made that a pdf file too - and you can scroll through the pages easily because I "stacked" them.
Here's my simple front page - it took hardly any time and the finished disc will be much easier to send out!
I also added one of the music files from the new Christmas pack.
The star will toggle the music on / of.
My husband walked by as it was playing and said "that's nice, who's playing" |

I like the looks of your project Terry. My latest is not quite so pretty but is very functional. Take a look at the menu at:
http://links.pictures.aol.com/pic?id=2720yUkHdfsU05qPMyr6Ann35n9jeH-GagoS&size=l
The project is a collection of individual slide shows made up of photographs from our recent (October) Mediterranean cruise trip. I was "inspired" to use the map of our cruise itinerary to create a menu and to use the names of the ports as the "button" for activating each slide show. Although the project is quite large (about 2 1/2 hours of viewing) the concept of breaking the project into individual slide shows allows great flexibility when viewing for myself or sharing with family and friends. All of the shows are accompanied by appropriate ethnic background music. _________________ Bernie |

Bernie,
I like it a lot.
I tried to make your front page show up right on the board, but the url wraps around and doesn't work.
The trip sounds great! How long was the cruise? Which places do you wish you could go back to and spend more time?
I like the idea of sharing what we've done with front pages. It will give us all new ideas. |

Our cruise was 14 days with two extra days added on at the beginning in Barcelona and two more at the end in Istanbul. It would be very difficult to pick a favorite as each has it's own unique culture and history. But I would go back to any of them in a heartbeat. When I play back my project I re-live the trip almost like I was there again. _________________ Bernie |

My mother was going through old things and discovered that she had a series of dancing school recital programs from the late 1950s.
When she gave them to me, I HAD to share them with cousins and friends who had also been in the classes with me.
We were also surprised to see that some of the "girls" I went to High School with were also in the same dance school, but we didn't know one another then. My High School served girls from all over Brooklyn.
I scanned the programs, went through them and listed the names I recognized on the details box, collected photographs from the times and put it all together in a Passage Express project.
Everyone who received one was thrilled with it.

Another project I'm working on is a short family trip to Ireland.
It makes it easy for me to put it all into a Passage Express project and keep all the details in one spot.
I usually bring my computer with me on a trip, so can always check something - or plan the next day as we go along.
Maps work great in Passage Express, as you can zoom in, or you can even label (face label) the specific spots you want to remember.

One of our newest members is having great difficulty posting messages.
Until that's straightened out, I'm relaying her message here.
On the Board about "Projects You are Currently Working On"...
You have a post about a Christmas Calendar you did for your family on CD.
I love this idea and would really like to do one for my family for this Christmas....not getting close are we?!?!? I don't have many dates to enter as it is for my immediate family and we are small. If I do it on CD, I can change it for each of my brothers to include their wives immediate families info, too.
However, I have absolutely NO idea how to go about this. I liked the idea about making it so they could print it out themselves if they like. However, the only thing I know about a .pdf file is opening it one in adobe acrobat.
When I say no idea, that is exactly what I mean...none!
I also really like the cover page you did. If you wouldn't mind I would like to do a similar page, if possible to get the graphics and lettering at this late in the game.
If this involves too much detailed info and is too much with it being in the middle of the holidays, I certainly understand.
Thanks for "hanging" with me on this....

Pam,
What I used for my calendar was a utility inside my genealogy program.
I use Brothers Keeper program, but I believe just about all of the programs have a utility that will let you print a calendar for whichever family you select.
There are a number of different free programs that will permit you to print your file as a .pdf file, instead of to paper.
Sometimes the ability is built into your word processor.
Many install a print driver on your computer, and when you select "print" you choose the .pdf printer instead of your normal printer.
One free program that I've heard good things about is
http://www.pdf995.com/
As for the graphics, they were readily available for private use.
Most of the menu was made right within Passage Express, and then I added a couple of graphics to make it look like Christmas.
One place to find free graphics is
http://desktoppub.about.com/od/freeclipart/Free_Clip_Art.htm
Hope that helps. _________________ Terry - volunteer forum monitor |

Hi Peter,
What a fun idea!
It's interesting too to see that you went from the UK to Australia.
These days that's quite a move.
I think I'm going to copy your idea... _________________ Terry - volunteer forum monitor |

Terry,
its a bit more complicated than that.
I was born in UK, emigrated in 1951, married in Aus and then went back to UK in the early 70's where we both worked until returning to Oz to raise the family, etc.
Which is what the project attempts to show hence the 2 sections Peter & Sandra then our sojourn in UK then back home
