without really knowing what i was doing -- I just sort of jumped into this without much background, a brand new laptop, a new operating system (for me) XP sp2, and a new piece of software that sounds like it could be a very useful tool from Spam's description -- but I didn't know what to expect. It wan't quite like I had been out researching scrapbooking software that would write to plastic discs.
Once the AQ update was installed, it didn't come with the first update package I downloaded, I discovered it didn't import .aqz files, just the .aq files, so Everything got migrated over to the new compter.
And it imported everything just fine. No special test data (that's next) but just my regular main database of 15,000 individuals, and a handful of photos that are attached and held in a relatively addressed subdirectory under the data.
The only slight glitch was the program reported (I know, I should have written it down) that there were two less phtos imported than expected, but that was from AQ letting me edit the photos for display and I had two photos of two people each where I had split them and had isolated half of each to appear with different individuals. The program did not stall, but did import the photos with the correct file name, ie, the photos are in the program and identified correctly.
Now, to go back and add AQ text to each one separately to see what happens.
Actually, I was pleasently suprised -- once I got to where I could go forward with an .aq file, it worked rather smoothly, i thot.
It looks like I could write a disc that not only would be a slide show but would also contain my AQ data so that if I included a copy of the AQ demo version software, would it be a useful distribution? Can this be done?
Tip of the Day the tip for Imports from PAF, Legacy, etc, even after the aq update was installed, does not include Ancestral Quest by name.
Help - Slideshow in the Help Index, "Saving or Repenning Your Slides!" Isn't that what happens at the end of 'toad' -- the pig repens the sheep? It is spelled correctly in the actual help page. (which is more than I can say for this post)

Hi Bill!
Thanks for the great feedback. I made a few little wording changes.
You asked if you can also include the AQ data itself, and include the AQ evaluation software on your project. Definitely.
There is a "reader" feature that we have in "settings". Take a look and see if it's user-friendly enough. Basically, you just download the AQ install program and add it into your "readers". Then when you burn discs or export your project in other ways, it will scan your project for ancestral quest files. If it finds any, it will automatically include the AQ install. Then, when people are viewing your project and come across an AQ file, it will offer to install it if they don't already have it.
