Because I can't remove folders from my original PE Project, I decided to create a new project. Here are notes I took during this excercise.
Create new project, named it Beta2 (old one is Beta1). I expected to be able to import files, folders from another project but that is not the case. If possible this might be a good feature to add. Remember that I have a messed up project - but there is some good stuff in that project that I want to keep. What I am most interested in keeping are the Descriptions I added to files imported into the project. I know I should fetch the data files from my source, but I would like to be able to re-use the text I added as Descriptions (via Details).
Help system does not include a Keyword Search. I was looking for help on the "Disable Automatic Folder Indexing (shows Blue Star) subject from the File Menu. I think I mentioned the lack of assistance provided (not) by the data in the help system for when things go wrong in another post. A user's manual will help - which I am sure in in your future plans.
The screen capture used in the help files associated with the Import function does not inlcude Ancestral Quest.
I decided to delete the new project and opt to duplicate the old project - to see if I would have an oportunity to select what from the orignial I wanted in the new project. The dup action worked, bu I did not have a chance to clean up the empty folders - they were just copied into the new project. Yes I tried to delete them from the new project, but I get the same results. The folders that I can't get rid of are folders that were created as a result of importing AQ data/image experiments. These folders are empty, but seem to indicate there are links to image files still hanging around - but not accessible.
Does the SPACE USED being reported include any Reader applications that will be written to CD? My guess is not. You might want to check this.
The Delete button for folders in Project Builder (lower left) does not appear. Instead, where the button should be I see the PE main screen. The button functions - it is just invisible. Should be an easy fix. This symptom showed up in version 2.0.14.
I would like to see the Hightlight of the selected folder - in Project Builder - be more obvious. PE appears to highlight folders (on the left) using off-white for the highlight on a white background. Or is this a setting I can change on my computer?
When I got all done - I elected to delete the new project and that appeared to go well. But when I Exited PE - I get an error message "Error Deleting Folders: Path Not Found".
Hope this helps - Jim |

Hi Jim,
It would be great if we could have two projects open at the same time and copy some things from one to the other, but I have no idea whether that's possible for the future?
What I have done when I needed to copy a few things is to make the PE screen less than full screen - so that my desktop is showing at the same time. Then I select the files I want and copy them - paste them to the desktop and then open the project I want in PE - and copy them from the desktop to the project. However, this does not save the notes and changes I've made to the photographs - or the face labels!
The titles revert to the original file names. It doesn't help with your current problem, but it comes in handy from time to time.
